A warm hut, a mountain-top view, and a weekend forecast full of sunshine – the Sunshine Coast Trail was calling our name again. The quaint and colourful community of Powell River welcomed us back for our second visit (see our first visit here) with open arms.
Our adventure included three days/two nights on the Sunshine Coast Trail, which stretches 180km (111 miles) and contains 13 huts, making it the longest hut to hut trail in Canada. Bolt and Keel ventured bravely into the snow with us.
In typical fashion, it didn’t long for us to sling Bolt around our necks while Keel trotted between us. The quiet trail felt like home as we meandered through the woods in anticipation of the hut that awaited us.
Tin Hat Hut welcomed us and the kitties as darkness fell over the surrounding hills and valleys. We opened the door and Bolt quickly made himself at home.
One of the biggest joys of this trip was the incredible people we met along the trail. From the kind strangers who shared the hut with two furry felines to the girls and their hound dogs who shared their local knowledge of the area (stay tuned for a great photo of Bolt, Keel, and one of the hounds Asha!), the people are really what makes this trail so special.
Sunsets, sunrises, and starry nights were enjoyed by all as we took on our adventure at a slower pace, including a multitude of cat naps.
On our second night we set up the tent over looking the surrounding mountains. The sun beamed into the tent as the kitties looked out in anticipation for our hike out while we enjoyed our espresso. Thanks Beachcomber coffee!
After two and a half days of hiking and driving through the intricate logging road system, we were happy to call our pet-friendly room at Beach Garden Resort home for the night. A huge thanks to the lovely people who came and visited Bolt and Keel at our meet-and-greet at Basecamp Coffee, we had so much fun meeting you all!
Looking to explore the Sunshine Coast? Here are a few of our recommendations:
- Not sure where to start? Beach Garden Resorts is offering a Sunshine Coast Trail package, which includes accommodation, as well as pick up and drop off at the trail head; how awesome is that?
- Feeling hungry? We thoroughly enjoyed Latin influenced food and margaritas at La Costa del Sol.
- Need your caffeine fix? Basecamp cafe has become our go to spot in Powell River. Good coffee, good eats, and sweet art.
Special thanks to the generous folks of Tourism Sunshine Coast for hosting us!
